With
Narcolepsy, Beeld
Beeld organises the first large retrospective about McKean
on the European continent. The show departs from a central "bed"-room,
and leads the visitor on to the various aspects of McKeans
impressive universe.
Besides original comic illustrations, the exhibition also shows
a large selection of art pictures, childrens books, recent
paintings, advertising work, illustrations and CD-covers. The
artists short movies will be shown continuously in the
best possible circumstances, and the audio spectacle Signal
to Noise will be played too.
In the scope of Kulturama, Iain Ballamy of Feral
Records gives several exclusive concerts with Norwegian
and Belgian jazz musicians on 13, 14 and 15 February.
With reference to the retrospective, Beeld
Beeld publishes the catalogue Narcolepsy. |

The
exhibition takes place at Tweebronnen, Diestsestraat 49, 3000 Leuven.
The
renovated van de Velde complex, Tweebronnen,
is the perfect setting for a comic strip exhibition. The world-famous Belgian
architect Henry van de Velde designed this unique building, which
is worth visiting as such. Together with Victor Horta, van de
Velde was the most significant exponent of the Belgian Art Nouveau.
Tweebronnen
is 1 of the few surviving van de Velde-buildings. It was constructed
between 1936-42
and served initially as technical school ("RITO"). After years
of vacancy and neglect, it was finally renovated in 1999.
The superb, stylish building is situated in the heart of Leuven, between
the Diestsestraat and the Rijschoolstraat. The rooms are filled with natural
light: 70 percent of the exterior walls consist of windowpanes.
Tweebronnen
serves as public library and city archive. At the same time, you find a
coffee bar on the premises, and the documentation centre of the province
of Flemish Brabant, a VRT-radio studio and different fully equipped exhibition
areas. The building enables locals as well as tourists to get to know different
exponents of culture. On a regular basis, there are exhibitions and other
cultural events in order to expand the cultural offer in the provincial
capital of Flemish Brabant. Beeld Beeld
is 1 of the steady partners to make this happen.
